Feminism--History--21st century ؛ Feminism--Social aspects ؛ Race--Social aspects ؛ SOCIAL SCIENCE / Feminism & Feminist Theory ؛ SOCIAL SCIENCE / Women's Studiesچکیده : "In this provocative book, esteemed scholar Barbara Tomlinson asserts that intersectionality--the idea that categories such as gender, race, and class create overlapping systemsof oppression--is consistently misinterpreted in feminist argument. Despite becoming a central theme in feminist scholarship and activism, Tomlinson believes dominant feminism has failed to fully understand the concept. Undermining Intersectionality reveals that this apparent paradox is the result of the disturbing racial politics underlying more than two decades of widely-cited critiques of intersectionality produced by prominent white feminist scholars who have been insufficiently attentive to racial dynamics. As such, feminist critiques of intersectionality repeatedly reinforce racial hierarchies, undermining academic feminism's supposed commitment to social justice. Tomlinson offers a persuasive analysis of the rhetorics and conventions of argument used in these critiques to demonstrate their systematic reliance on "powerblind" discursive practices. Undermining Intersectionality concludes by presenting suggestions about concrete steps feminist researchers, readers, authors, and editors can take to promote more productive and principled engagements with intersectional thinking"--
"This project examines the discursive practices of feminist critiques of intersectionality, arguing that they reinforce racial hierarchies, undermine feminism's stated commitments to social justice, and register a perception by white feminists that they have lost control of a certain kind of feminism that centers racially unmarked women"--لینک ثابت رکورد: ../opac/index.php?lvl=record_display&id=2913 زبان مدرک : English

In doing so, this book argues that femininity, femaleness, masculinity and maleness work as assets in feminised occupations and that the concept 'gender capital' may help researches to better understand the complex relationship between gender, class and occupation. This book builds on Bourdieusian theory, particularly the concept 'gender capital', and provides a unique approach to gendered occupational segregation. The standard account credits founders such as Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, and Lucretia Mott with defining and then leading the campaign for women's suffrage. In her provocative new history, Lisa Tetrault demonstrates that Stanton, Anthony, and their peers gradually created and popularized this origins story during the second half of the nineteenth century in response to internal movement dynamics as well as the racial politics of memory after the Civil War"-- لینک ثابت رکورد: ../opac/index.php?lvl=record_display&id=2744 زبان مدرک : English

Yearning collects together some of hooks's classic and early pieces of cultural criticism from the '80s. Addressing topics like pedagogy, postmodernism, and politics, hooks examines a variety of cultural artifacts, from Spike Lee's film Do the Right Thing and Wim Wenders's film Wings of Desire to the writings of Zora Neale Hurston and Toni Morrison. The result is a poignant collection of essays which, like all of hooks's work, is above all else concerned with transforming oppressive structures of domination"-- مندرجات Preface to the new edition -- liberation scenes : speak this yearning -- the politics of radical black subjectivity -- postmodern blackness -- the chitlin circuit : on black community -- homeplace : a site of resistance -- critical interrogation : talking race, resisting racism -- reflections on race and sex -- representations : feminism and black masculinity -- sitting at the feet of the messenger : remembering malcolm x -- third world diva girls : politics of feminist solidarity -- an aesthetic of blackness : strange and oppositional -- aesthetic inheritances : history worked by hand -- culture to culture : ethnography and cultural studies as critical intervention -- saving black folk culture : zora neale hurston as anthropologist and writer -- choosing the margin as a space of radical openness -- stylish nihilism : race, sex, and class at the movies -- representing whiteness : seeing wings of desire -- counter-hegemonic art : do the right thing -- a call for militant resistance -- seductive sexualities : representing blackness in poetry and on screen -- black women and men : partnership in the 1990s -- an interview with bell hooks by gloria watkins : no, not talking back, january 1989 -- a final yearning : january 1990 لینک ثابت رکورد: ../opac/index.php?lvl=record_display&id=2351 زبان مدرک : English
